Are you spending so much time on social media that you’re thinking in hashtags? #muststop #cantstop
When you’re spending more time making social media connections than life connections, it’s time for meditation.
Put the smartphone down. Turn it to silent. We swear, it’s not going anywhere.
From Twitter to LinkedIn to Facebook, life moves fast when your fingers are moving at warp speed across the keyboard. Moving at this breakneck pace can keep us in our sympathetic nervous system for far too long. Even though we don’t have to exercise our “fight or flight” response, when we’re safely behind a computer monitor, our nervous system doesn’t know any differently.
Let’s do a meditation to slow things down and to get into the parasympathetic part of our selves (all meditation does this).
Try the act of vipassana, which is being in the here and now. Whether you decide to practice with your eyes closed or open, work on focusing on everything that is going on around you right now. You know, the parts of life that can so easily fade into the background when our smartphone chirps at us.
Become aware of every thought, of every feeling and of everything around you at this moment.
Notice what you focus on, without judgment.
Just let yourself be in the present without a screen in the way for an extended moment.
This is a good meditation to practice often to honour the art of #disconnecting to be more #connected.
