It’s Friday and you've worked hard this week so, how about something easy? It’s the Fast Friday 5 – a quick five things you need to know, served up nice and simple.
It’s snowing, and yeah, it’s cold...so what? We’re Canadian, eh?
Ixnay the desire to hibernate this winter and get outdoors to enjoy our beautiful backyard. Here are 5 super fun ways to go play in the cold (you still have that toque, right?):
1. Build a Snow Fort. Remember that epic tunnel fort in the snow bank of your youth? Recapture the thrill of being encased safely in a snow-home with a group of friends (you just know a snowball fight will ensue) or, set yourself up for some snow camping and maybe a little winter wilderness nookie.
2. Shush it up Cross Country Skiing. Blah, blah, blah, Canadian tradition, blah, blah, great cardio workout, blah...there is, in our opinion, but one reason to spend the day cross country skiing through our amazing frozen wilderness… chocolate tastes its absolute best when consumed in a fire-heated ski hut. You can either take our word for it or get out there and discover the unforgettable truth.
3. Paddle Downhill. That’s right, put your kayak on a snowy hill and point yourself down. In snow-kayaking the paddles are more for steering than propulsion and you’ll definitely want to find yourself a helmet! You may never fear summer’s sissy water rapids again.
4. Winter Mountain Biking. If your freedom comes directly from being astride two wheels then there’s no reason to surrender your freedom every winter. Trade those knobby tires for studded ones or try replacing the front one with a single ski attachment. Find your way to the top of a mountain and then, go that way, really fast, and if something gets in your way; turn.
5. Go Snowkiting. If you spend your summer kite-boarding across glassy lakes, there’s no reason to retire the fun just because Old Man Winter done froze your lake over. Grab a snowboard and carve up some sweet snowy plains, snow-kite style.
So, pull your toque down over your ears, double wrap your scarf, give Jack Frost the cold shoulder and congratulate yourself for re-earning your Canadian card.
