Vancouver City Connector and lover of all things yoga and wellness, Erin Urton, shares her craft: divine and decadent smoothie creative. Slurp your way towards vitality with these anything-but-ordinary, power-packed blender concoctions.
This blend will transport you back to the comfort of granny’s kitchen - the aroma of fresh baked apple pie with that hint of cinnamon that sends the senses into snuggle-mode (minus all the butter and brown sugar).
Nutritionally dense and high in fibre, the combination of apples, pears, quinoa and flax is loaded with calcium, folate, and 9 essential amino acids, not to mention healthy omega fats. A little cinnamon and ginger makes it all uber digestable so you maximize on nutrient uptake and balance blood sugars.
Ingredients
Organic, just like how our great grannies did it...
1 small apple, cored, skin on
½ a pear, skin on
⅓ cup cooked quinoa, chilled (raw oats work too!)
¼ tsp fresh-grated ginger
dash of cinnamon
1 tsp maple syrup
2 tsp freshly ground flaxseed
½ cup unsweetened almond milk
Filtered water for desired thickness (or more almond milk)
1 Tbsp unflavoured protein powder as an optional boost
Blend until smooth. Then nestle into your comfy chair and enjoy.

Erin Urton has her fingers deep in the world of heath and wellness, namely as a yoga teacher in Squamish, BC at the Yoga Studio Community Co-op. It was yoga that naturally led her to write and created the desire to help others find their own paths towards health. When she’s not networking up a storm, Erin is outside exploring mountains and forests as much as humanly possible.
