Vancouver City Connector and lover of all things yoga and wellness, Erin Urton, shares her craft: divine and decadent smoothie creative. Slurp your way towards vitality with these anything-but-ordinary, power-packed blender concoctions.
Although I loathed organic chemistry class at University, a recent mild addiction to the crime/drama series Breaking Bad has me connecting to my inner chemist.
Only instead of "cooking" up something that is really - I mean really - bad for you, this concoction is nothin' but good times; for your tastebuds and your health.
Anitoxidant-abundant blueberries paired with fibre-rich pear are balanced out by a detoxifying hit of lemon. Iron and calcium-laden green leafies and drool-worthy medjool dates up the mineral factor. Add a pinch of salt and a dash of chia and you have a balanced solution for all that ails you.
Ingredients
Organic-ify your laboratory.
1 pear, cored, peel on
3/4 cup blueberries
handful of spinach or romaine lettuce
squeeze a wedge of lemon
1-2 soaked medjool dates
1 cup of filtered water (or coconut water)
1 Tbsp chia seed
small pinch of sea salt
add more water if your smoothie is too thick
Optional: add a half or full scoop of your favourite protein powder (vanilla or plain work best).
Blend until super smooth and you'll be on your way to a full-blown smoothie addiction.
