Bev may be 57 (oops – don’t tell anyone) but you’ll never get her to admit it 'cause she’s a gritty and steadfast anti-aging warrior. Through The Age-Old War, she’ll introduce you to natural, yet powerful, foods or techniques that will keep that nasty nemesis at bay. Read on and join her anti-aging army.
The Queen Bee. That’s who to be if you want long life, youthfulness and a respite from the creaks and groans of everyday aging.
Queen bees live on average 40 times longer than their offspring. In simpler terms, they live about six years compared to a worker bee’s six weeks. How do they do it? By living exclusively on a diet of royal jelly.
You don’t need to be quite so restricted, but adding royal jelly to your diet will enhance your health significantly. You’ll stave off the ravages of age, quicken your metabolism and help regenerate diseased tissues.
What makes this elixir so potent and powerful? For starters, this creamy liquid, manufactured by the nurse bees, is brimming with proteins, amino acids, sugars, sterols and compounds like acetylcholine.
Acetylcholine alone is miraculously useful to us. Why? Because as long as our bodies are well supplied with this neurotransmitter, Alzheimer’s disease is held at bay. A neurotransmitter is a chemical compound used by the body to transmit nerve messages from cell to cell.
If that’s not enough to chow down on royal jelly think about this. This majestic food is also rich in vitamin C which helps the body fight off viruses and in Vitamin E, a well-known anti-oxidant.
There are more regal perks. Royal jelly contains a basic form of collagen, which as we well know, keeps our skin smooth and plump. It’s also a storehouse of B-vitamins* that help you fling off life’s daily stresses. What more can one ask for (besides a royal king by your side)?
Your best bet for acquiring high-grade royal jelly is to purchase freshly frozen or freeze-dried royal jelly from a reputed bee and honey company. Capsules are a poor option since many of the nutrients are destroyed during the encapsulation process.
Treat yourself to a daily habit of royal jelly, as should any queen.
*An analysis done by The Banting Institute of Ontario found that royal jelly is rich in proteins and B-vitamins, especially pantothenic acid which is linked to longevity and in restoring gray hair to its original color.
