You open your front door and – poof! – there’s all of your farm-fresh produce for the week. It’s not a fairytale; it’s Urban Harvest Organic Delivery.
Since 2000, David Nelson and Lisa McIntosh having been plucking the cream of the local crop, delicately placing it into bins, and popping them on peoples’ stoops. It’s a basket of organic goodness right at your toetips.
Each week the magic mix changes, challenging the adventurous to experiment with various seasonal fruits and veggies. Prefer the comforts of your favourites? Simply jump online and adjust your order according to what you want and need. Their stars system makes swapping apples (two stars) for a double batch of plums (one star each) a snap. You can also go beyond produce and shop for staples like organic dairy products and fresh bakery items, or the locally-made and widely-loved Little Creek Salad Dressings.
If you’re the kind of shopper who needs to commune with their fruit before you take it home (you know, squeeze some lemons and shake some melons) then Saturday morning is the time to hit up Urban Harvest at their warehouse sale.
But once you walk in and see the crates of recently picked organic goodness, collect some farm-fresh eggs, chat with one of their featured merchants and sniff the delectable bakery selection (we can never choose between the Asiago Black Pepper or the Callebaut Chocolate loaf!) you’ll be happy to let the produce fairy add your doorstep to her delivery list.
And to get you through the winter, they provide year-round service by sourcing delectable goods from outside of Canada.
A very happy ending.
