Montrealers are passionate people. We love our Habs, our bagels, and since 2009 we've fallen in love with our Bixis. All 5,050 of them.
Those smitten know that Bixis are elegant, sturdy three-speed bicycles with baskets, cushy seats and lights. They make a midnight pedal through the romantic streets and alleyways safe and magical.
The Bixi network bike sharing system will blow your mind. You buy a 24 hour, 72 hour, 30 day or one year membership. That entitles you to an unlimited number of rides for the duration of your membership. The cost of a one-year membership: $78. A year for less than a month-long bus pass and so much more fun!
Some giddy Bixi riders can’t stay away, logging more than 700 rides annually. That's emotional commitment.
The 5050 Bixi bikes on the island of Montreal are parked at 405 stations. After 45 minutes on a bike—enough time to get pretty much anywhere you need to go in Montreal—there's an additional fee of $1.50 per half hour. But there is a way around this: if you’re not quite at your destination (Montreal can be distracting in the most pleasant ways) simply park your Bixi at a convenient station, wait two minutes, and take it out again to continue your meandering. Bixis are perfect for leisurely explorations or quick commutes.
To stoke your passion for Montreal, join the fun and fall in love with Bixi.
