Remaining faithful to your fitness resolutions is tough.
Good news, Training Mobs has hundreds of people willing to virtually nudge you. This online network is to fitness fanatics what Facebook is to social-media junkies. After less than a year on the cyber front, this online social fitness community is helping you find and share group workouts one click at a time.
What began as David Sciacca and Jonas Caruana’s frustration with their former day jobs (investment banking and management consulting) led them on a trip to Costa Rica where inspiration struck. The two lamented about how difficult it was to find fun, inexpensive workouts. That spawned the idea of a digital solution and, with the help of Australian software engineer, Frank Hmeiden, they launched Training Mobs in January 2011.
The concept is simple: set your workout and location preferences on trainingmobs.com and get a personalised feed of training “mobs” near you. In no time, you’ll be going for an afternoon jog in the Old Port one day and making an attempt at Parkour the next.
Though it originated in Montréal, it’s quickly expanding to other parts of Canada, including Toronto, Calgary and Banff and even parts of the U.S. - so far, mobs are forming in Austin, New York and San Fran.
Forget about that lonely workout in the park - log on to Training Mobs, and make it a social event with a few dozen new friends.
A workout of honor.
