“Calling all cars… Be advised of some shady-looking tattoo-covered characters seen brandishing cleavers in the vicinity of Kitsilano. Time for a steakout.”
Okay, so the staff at The Honest Butcher don’t look like the clean-cut Sam the Butcher from The Brady Bunch, but they do know their clean cuts.
And when we say “clean,” we mean CLEAN. All the beef, pork, poultry, eggs, and lamb products are sustainably raised and/or organic, and everything in the shop is locally sourced in BC. Hang around long enough and you may bump into one of the farmers who'll be happy to tell you about his farming methods.
Maybe you don’t need to know your steak’s favourite grazing spot or your sausage’s preferred feeding trough - sometimes it's enough just to know that your meat wasn’t pumped full of hormones before getting slaughtered in an overcrowded, disease-ridden, meat-processing factory.
Then again, maybe you simply like your steaks to taste like real meat that doesn’t come injected full of dye and wrapped in plastic on a Styrofoam tray.
The staff is always available to answer questions, help you find the choicest cuts, and offer their favourite cooking tips and recipe suggestions. Don’t mind the tattoos and facial hair or the heavy metal music - these guys know what they’re talking about. The lamb burgers and homemade sausages are enough to make you a believer for life.
And go ahead; call them “meatheads.” It’s a compliment.
