Oh, you need some help. Well, the folks at Green City Acres have big plans for you! They’ll turn your wasted back yard space into an organic farm - and give you some of those fresh veggies each week. That's right, give, as in free!
Their long list of customers speaks volumes about the impact Green City Acres have made with small plots of land. They supply to all the big wineries in the valley, restaurants including Raudz and the Fixx - plus, they are one of Urban Harvest’s regular suppliers. Any uncollected boxes of food are donated to the Kelowna Women’s Shelter.
GCA was founded by former tree-planter, Curtis Stone, who knows that even a little bit of land can go a long way. He returned to his hometown of Kelowna in 2009 determined to create big-time impact in a small community. When he heard about SPIN farming, he saw golden opportunities all around him.
Curtis asked local homeowners to donate their unused gardens in exchange for their weekly groceries - only fresher. Within a short time, he had offers of land all around the city, and started selling organic veggies at Kelowna’s Farmer’s Market. “Do something, and it will happen,” Curtis says proudly.
