You may think that
drinking coffee and meditating are about as similar as bootcamp and yoga. Yet, there are places where they can cross over.
Meditation is meant to shine light on a deep feeling of inner awareness. It is meant to make you more engaged with the world, not less.
Coffee, when used moderately, does the same thing. It helps you to open your eyes a little more, and if used consciously, can bring you into a more flexible and open mindset.
The next time you have the pleasure of a cup of coffee in your hands, don’t chug it back and get on with your day.
Deepen your experience of each sip. Note the action of swallowing.
Take enough breaks to notice if you feel a shift in your internal environment.
If you have thoughts during the coffee drinking, that’s perfectly natural, as the nature of the mind is to think. Yet see if you can you use the taste of your beloved beverage to stabilize the mind and bring you into a present state.
Every time you get distracted, take a sip and let it wash over your tongue. You may find you need less to get the same invigorating results. Let every mindful taste awaken your awareness.
Coffee will never be the same again.
