How often do you pause before you take a bite of food?
In the everyday rush of life, it is too easy to become disconnected from food. Since food ultimately becomes our bodies, we grow disconnected from ourselves. Taking time to appreciate the food on our plates is an important step in cultivating mindfulness and mindful eating.
So how do we start becoming more mindful of our eating habits? A great first step is to use a
mantra before you begin your meal.
A mantra is a word, sound, or phrase repeated to aid in your concentration.
These four mantras will help ensure you make the time to not only nourish your body, but also your mind:
I deserve this time to feel nourished and energized.
I will eat what is good for my mind, body & soul.
I am in full control of my food choices & what I put in my body.
This food will fuel me and allow me to be more energized and present today.
We love incorporating our
mala beads into this practice of saying a mantra to keep us grounded and in the moment. Every time you repeat the phrase, go to the next bead and move yourself into the present moment. Don’t take too much time though – you don’t want your food to get cold!
You are what you eat. You are what you think. When you put the two together, you're enabling yourself to make an everyday moment a magical one.
