Ready to immerse in more flavours of fall?
Persimmons are a cute little Chinese fruit that make their way to the store in autumn and early winter. Golden yellow with a button top, crisp and sweet, this fruit looks oddly like an orange tomato and is actually, technically, a berry. Yep, a giant
berry.
Like all foods with a rich yellow-orange colour, persimmons boast a boat-load of antioxidant
vitamin A, beta-carotene, and lycopene among other high density phytonutrients.
Each fruit holds almost 4 grams of dietary fibre (that's pretty high in case you're wondering) and is rich in B vitamins, important for your body in mitigating
the stress response, including inflammation.
Add a little mango to smooth out your smoothie, and some
turmeric and ginger to warm up your digestive fires (also badass inflammation fighters), and you've got yourself a perfect nutritional supplement to help your belly - and your brain - be at ease.
Ingredients
1 persimmon (remove the top leaves)
3 cubes of frozen mango
1 inch chunk of ginger (or more)
Juice of half a small lemon
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 Tbsp hemp hearts
1 cup of almond milk (or more if desired)
Blend until smooth and perk up your buds with some persimmony love.
