It may sound strange, but
the gorgeous peach—sweet, juicy, and teaming with summer flavour—is a perfect accompaniment to a light and bubbly beer.
Don’t believe us? Give this drink a try.
Ultra refreshing on a hot summer day, this shandy packs a lot more peach punch than your typical brewski. Each drink contains half of a peach—skin, pulp, and all—meaning you’re already ahead on getting a
serving of fruit in your day.
And because of the fruit content, you’re also l
oading up on antioxidants. Peaches contain Vitamin C, chlorogenic acid, lutein, zea-xanthin, and ß-cryptoxanthin—all antioxidant compounds that act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals, which play a role in aging and various disease processes.
Still fuzzy on whether you should try it? We say a big, resounding, “go for it!”
Peachy Shandy
1 large, ripe organic peach, pitted and finely chopped
½ oz maple syrup
1.5 oz cointreau
A few drops of orange bitters
1 bottle of a lighter tasting beer, gluten-free if preferred. Try a pale ale or pilsner-style beer.
Lime wedges
Method
In a tall, sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, muddle together the peach, maple syrup, and cointreau until very juicy and completely pureed.
Split the mixture between 2 beer or
collins glasses filled with ice and add 2 drops of orange bitters into each glass.
Top each glass with ½ a bottle/can of beer and stir gently until fully combined. Garnish with a wedge of lime to be squeezed before drinking.
