It’s ironic that Will Blunderfield has the word “blunder” in his name. One of the definitions of this word is “to move or act blindly, stupidly, or without direction or steady guidance.”
This is exactly the opposite of the way that this singer-songwriter and yoga teacher lives his life. You need only to
click on his website and hear him belt out Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” to feel the authenticity of his passion.
Will leads
yoga classes that fuse with music, such as his Glee classes where he has the class belt out songs as they dance. Will spoke with us about his musical influences, his ideal day and how you can find your passion and your purpose:
You seem to be young with an old soul. Did you have the old soul early or was it as a result of living and learning?
Thank you for the compliment! At the end of the day, I believe we're all old souls. In other words, I believe that every soul that comes in is at the same expansive, enthusiastic place of motion forward. However, sometimes through social conditioning, we get trained to block our expansion, which creates the illusion of different soul gradations. We're all extensions of Source and we're all here to be happy and to shine. We're here for the joyous experience of creating!
Your Glee yoga classes sound so amazing. Does music infuse everything you do?
Oh yes. You'll find me singing often, whether it's on stage, in the shower, or humming on the way to teach.
Who are your major musical influences?
I love Enya’s soothing, multi-layered vocals. I also love Boy George’s style, authenticity and love for Krishna!
You seem to do a lot of different things. Describe an ideal day.
Every day, I focus on participating in what I call my “daily ritual.” It starts at 6 am! Because morning is
where we set the tone for the day, I make sure to do a few things: yoga, breath techniques, inner reflection, and emotional clearing…and coffee (Milano is my favorite)! If I’m having a particularly rough morning, I’ll add cacao (opens the heart) or have chamomile tea.
Each day, I do at least an hour or two of work toward my professional goals: sending e-mails, rehearsing for shows, or creating routines for my spin and yoga classes. I usually go for a walk or workout around two or three
no matter how busy I am, since my mind and body needs this to refresh for the rest of the day. I aim to move each day, whether it’s hiking with my buddy before I go to work, doing one of my 25 minutes abs workouts (which I teach at Steve Nash Sports Clubs), or taking a yoga class at a Vancouver/Tokyo studio.
Also really essential to my wellness is that every day, I make time
to do something for myself: biking along the seawall, practicing music with my producer here in Vancouver, writing songs, or imagining my next moves in life over a tea with my journal.
What is one of the main messages that you would like your students and fans to receive from your work?
Do more of what makes you happy!
A man who practices what he preaches.
