Refrigerator Reveal with Stewart Brown

:Stewart Brown: Refrigerator Reveal with Stewart Brown
For Stewart Brown, the road to Genuine Health started in his 20’s when traditional medicine failed to alleviate health issues he was experiencing. Finding resolve due to a shift in his diet, the addition of all-natural supplements and regular exercise, he became a passionate advocate for the natural health movement…so much, that following university, he would open his own health food store.

But not until a friendship struck with Sam Graci, original formulator (and genius!) behind the now-famous greens+ did Stewart’s career really kick into high gear.  Seeing and feeling the benefits of including a green-food formula daily, Stewart believed they were on the path to phenomenal health for others to enjoy - and he’s never looked back.

Fast forward to today, and you will find Stewart at the helm of the highly esteemed company, Genuine Health. Now with over 50 formulas for optimum performance and wellness, the company continues to lead the industry with its innovation (we’re huge fans!) and research-supported formulas.

Curious to learn more about this busy President and Dad to three university-aged sons, we got a glimpse into his fridge, along with some inquisitive questions about what he eats, reads and recommends…

How would you describe your current diet? Vegan, vegetarian?

Neither! I was in a past life when I lived on the west coast, but I found I needed more. If you believe in the blood type diet (as I do), I learned my body performs better with greater variety.

I’ve since become a huge advocate for the Mediterranean way of eating.  Scientifically, it’s got the best data for being the healthiest diet out there - and really does seem to be the healthiest for me. But of course, I try to eat as seasonally as I can too.

How about wheat or gluten?

I generally limit my intake of gluten, but I don’t have any issues otherwise.

Looks like you have a good variety of healthy foods in your fridge. Any foods you must always have on-hand?

Beer for my kids - don’t worry, they’re adults, or at least they think they are! Kefir, tea, granola, and root veggies (especially in the winter), and berries, berries and more berries.

Refrigerator Reveal
What do you eat on a typical day?

Mornings are usually granola and kefir, some live probio+ o3mega plus an o3mega. Curries are a favorite for lunch. And typically I’ll have a light supper, often with a small amount of fish.  If I’ve got a workout planned, I’ll have activfuel+ to keep me going and activrecover+ for post recovery.

As far as drinks go, I’m a tea junkie, either black or green. I drink water like a camel. My other bevvy of choice is of course smoothies. Usually a concoction of greens+ O vanilla, combined with unflavoured greens+ whole body nutrition, and unflavoured fermented vegan proteins+.

Do you allow yourself sweet or savoury treats? If so, they include:

Chocolate! Usually dark, usually mint.

Favourite food, product, cookbook or recipe(s) you’re enjoying these days?

Jamie Kennedy’s newest cookbook, J.K: The Jamie Kennedy Cookbook. I’ve known him forever and love how he’s always been passionate about organics, and remains so focused and involved with the local food movement, something he was instrumental in establishing.

Obviously, you’re a big believer in supplements. If you can recommend your top formulas to those who are confused/unsure, they’d be...?

First and foremost, it starts with good nutrition. Get this part right, and the body will hopefully take care of what it needs.

Unfortunately however, many of us aren’t getting it right and it’s impacting our health.  We’re simply not eating the way our ancestors did – partly out of our control too.  For example, research shows the typical nutrient profile for foods has disintegrated so much that even something like an orange from the 1930’s is equivalent to 8 today - due to poor farming and soil deterioration.

With greens+ whole body, you get a phenomenal array of powerful ingredients, including 70% fermented nutrients. Fermentation plays a significant role in gut health, impacting nearly everything – your energy, digestion, mood – even brainpower.

Next, high quality fish oil such as our omega+3 triple strength+ Vitamin D3. I could go on and on about the importance of EPA and DHA fatty acids.  Let’s just say if you want healthier skin, mood, heart, brain – even weight loss, omega-3 fats are what you need and should include daily.

With the addition of Vitamin D3 – you get the “sunshine vitamin” that keeps winning us over with more proven health benefits (and sadly lacking for us Canadians), thereby making it a win-win formula for short and long-term health.

We’ve heard a lot of celebrities (Ellen DeGeneres included) and sports figures use your products. Care to drop any names?

It’s true Ellen did share her love of greens+ a while back – as have many other well known personalities and Olympic athletes. We’re not elitist mind-you! We believe everyone can benefit from improved health and happiness, and will continue to make that our core mission.

Is Sam Graci really healthy all the time?? Come on, tell us he likes the occasional burger with fries!

Sorry no! He definitely walks his talk. Perhaps a glass of red wine from time to time, actually probably half a glass. That’s about it - and he does it to get the resveratrol!

If you could look inside someone else’s fridge, whose would it be?

Joy McCarthy’s. I’m a huge fan. Though David Suzuki’s or Rob Ford’s would be interesting too!
