It may not be surprising that meditation has long been a favourite of the Hollywood A-list. After all, we are talking about some pretty stressful jobs with a real need to stay focused.
Just for fun, we thought we'd look beyond the obvious and come up with 5 unique reasons
celebrities meditate.
1. Killer Body. According to supermodel Giselle Bundchen, meditation is to be credited for her stunning physique. She paired it with yoga to get back into shape after her pregnancy but she says that it's the practice of mindfulness that really keeps her fit. Of course, the good genes help too.
2. Love. This year's hottest new couple routinely spend
date night at the meditation centre. Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello both practice TM and love to do it together. We hope they take a cue from Trudie Styler and Sting who've used meditation to create a loving relationship that's lasted for over 30 years. Love is in the om.
3. Creativity. Acting, singing, directing - they all fall under the creative arts for good reason, so what do you do when your creativity dries up? For actor Eva Mendes, meditation is her short cut to her creative side. Katy Perry and David Lynch have also said that meditation helps them
channel their creativity and grow ideas. We're going to guess there were some marathon meditations behind those plot twists in Twin Peaks.
4. Staying Grounded. It may not be the first word we think of when we think of superstars, but maybe that's all the more reason for them to seek out meditation. Staying grounded seems to be a pretty common reason celebrities seek out meditation. Russell Brand says he's a bit manic and neurotic without meditation. Evan Rachel Wood has been using meditation to let go of industry anxiety since she was 12, while Kristen Bell and Paul McCartney say it's their secret access to
zen in any situation.
5. Winning. As the Seattle Seahawks prepare to go to the Superbowl, we'd be remise to leave them off the list. Their coach, Pete Carroll, introduced meditation and mindfulness practices to the team two years ago and they've been winning ever since. Need a less sporty example? Supermodel Miranda Kerr says she uses meditation and visualization before she conquers the catwalk. See the win, meditate on it and go get it - whatever you want to win at.
Looking at this list is a good reminder that celebrities really are just like us. They have stresses and desires that are helped through the practices of meditation. So, why not live that celebrity lifestyle and
meditate?
