In the past, it may have only been one day that filled the stomach to capacity. Now it seems that the holiday season is growing. It’s no surprise that so too are our waistlines!
Eating and living cleanly during the dirtiest time of the year is not impossible, but it does take some pre-planning. Here’s how to remain dedicated to the clean living path without being that neglected partygoer who only eats carrot sticks.
1. Stick to a Routine.
The healthiest people make time for their health. If you have a schedule that is packed, knock out some of the social events that aren’t crucial to your happiness or career. Consider doing a little less and sending ecards rather than Christmas cards (which happily, saves trees as well). With the time you have dedicated to yourself, ensure that your workouts remain a priority. They can always be done inside with holiday music blaring.
2. Become a Grateful Foodie.
Homemade goodies are definitely worth a taste, but you don’t have to be in the clean plate club. If your snack has come frozen from a package, stay clear. You know better than that and it can be easy to get swayed when chirpy holiday decorations lure you under their spell.
3. BYOC (Bring Your Own Clean).
If you feel you’ll be at a party that will have no offerings, bring
your own appetizer or dessert. You can even make
clean and healthy eggnog. You will know exactly what went into it, which will be great news if you find yourself grazing. Plus, everyone likes the person who unfailingly comes with a hostess gift and some homemade food.
4. Saving Up is a Bad Investment.
Saving up your calories or being a weekend warrior when it comes to your workouts just plain doesn’t work. Keep steady blood sugar and commit to regular mini workouts to remind yourself that it feels pretty great when you’re energetic enough to last through party after party.
5. Water, Water, Everywhere.
You can always
add a little water to every situation you are in. The more hydrated you are, the less likely you will be to nurse a hangover or reach for food just to keep your hands busy. Sparkling water and filtered water are great choices. You can even use them to dilute drinks!
6. Assume the Best.
Have a good attitude when you go to a party, knowing that you’ll indulge only when it’s worth your while. Keep mindful when you eat and supplement with the
essential vitamins and minerals that your diet may be lacking. You need your immunity!
