Take a whole bunch of good stuff, pop it in the blender, whiz and go. There’s really nothing that can rival the smoothie when it comes to healthy fast food. But are your smoothies really healthy?
In our latest podcast, host Tim Wohlberg takes on the smoothie phenomenon to find out if we're doing it right, why we need to get some green in our blend and what the potential is for rendering our healthy smoothie unhealthy.
Who better to guide us toward better-for-us smoothies than nutritionist, digital superstar (um, have you seen joyoushealth.ca lately?) and author, Joy McCarthy? And what better time to tackle this topic than just as tuja (and thousands of tujis) are getting ready to take the 30-day Green Smoothie Challenge?
It may come as no surprise to many that Joy McCarthy is super passionate about smoothies. In our podcast chat she shares why she thinks they are a perfect food for absolutely everyone - kids, wellness-newbies, people on the go, and the already uber-healthy. In fact, her enthusiasm for smoothies is so uncontainable that when listing off her favourite ingredients, she spontaneously creates a smoothie recipe. It sounds so good you can almost hear Tim drooling in the background!
Once they finish riffing on favourite smoothie ingredients, Joy also reveals the one thing that so many people mistakenly put in their smoothies, rendering them unhealthy. And, she raises one caution flag for the uber-healthy against something they might unknowingly be doing wrong.
Building a healthy smoothie habit takes a bit of commitment, which is why tuja has created the 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge. To make it easier to develop a daily smoothies routine over a long enough period of time that it becomes second nature to wake up and reach for the blender. If it can bring you even a smidge of the jubilance, energy and enthusiasm that we hear from Joy in this podcast, we'd say it's worth it.
The tuja 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge is made possible through the support of Vegans Greens+O. The challenge runs from September 1 - 30 and participants are welcome to jump in at any time. Sign up now.
