Weekend warriors, newbies and running addicts--prepare to set a personal best while enjoying some fantastic scenery. The Halifax Regional Municipality offers some great events, so be ready to the hit the aisle trail running.
The Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon
Nova Scotians are proud of their Bluenose heritage, so it's not surprising hundreds of them are happy to sport blue painted noses for this annual long weekend run fest. The full 42.2 km marathon starts in Halifax and ends in Dartmouth, with a route that includes two beautiful wooded park trails and a long trek along Lake MicMac. There’s also a half marathon, a 10K, a 5K, and a 4.2 km Youth Run that’s the largest in Canada.

Dartmouth Natal Day Road Race
This historic event has been around since 1906, making it one of the longest running road races in North America. Organized by the Fast Company Running Club, both the two mile and six mile road races are open to runners of all levels and ages. The Natal Day Six Mile Race is also a series finale for the Timex Race Series and determines which competitive road runner will represent the province at the National 10K Championships in Toronto this fall.

Support the Troops Navy 10K
Lace up your running shoes and support our troops! Halifax’s rich naval history is highlighted during this event that pays homage to our military personnel. Register for a 10K, 5K or the Kid’s Run. Military members get a registration fee discount.

Rum Runners Relay
An incredibly popular 110K race paying homage to the province’s rum running history. The 10-stage running relay starts in Halifax and ends in historic Lunenburg. The annual event sells out almost immediately following the closing awards ceremony, so get ready for next year! Sadly, the 2012 race is already full – so go cheer on the runners and instead race to get your entry for next year.
