Bev may be 56 (oops – don’t tell anyone) but you’ll never get her to admit it 'cause she’s a gritty and steadfast anti-aging warrior. Through The Age-Old War, she’ll introduce you to natural, yet powerful, foods or techniques that will keep that nasty nemesis at bay. Read on and join her anti-aging army.
OK – let’s face it. We’re all vain.
Don’t try to argue. We’ve seen you peering in the mirror; smoothing those cheeks back, trying to figure out how those teeny wrinkles ever got there in the first place (and what to do about ‘em).
Vitamin K2 is your new defense strategy.
Never heard of this vitamin? You’re not alone. It has only come to the forefront in very recent years but wow, has it ever made an entrance! It’s now being touted as an anti-aging vitamin par excellence.
It has to do with calcium.
As we age, calcium starts to accumulate in our blood vessels, very often in the aortic valve. Since the aortic valve is one of our heart valves this is not good news.
If enough calcium accrues so that the opening narrows, this becomes really bad news indeed. Aortic valve stenosis is your next stop. This means you’re at severe risk for congestive heart failure.
What Vitamin K2 does is quite marvelous. It diverts the calcium from this harmful zone to your bones where you need and want it.
So, where does one get vitamin K2 naturally? The best source is natto. Unfortunately, this fermented soy bean delicacy is definitely an acquired taste. If you can chow down on Stilton and Blue cheese with impunity, you may like it. It can be found where Japanese foods are sold, if you want to try it.
Other good sources are egg yolks, meat, milk, cheese and butter, but only from grass-fed cows. Fermented foods like kefir and sauerkraut also contain this super vitamin.
Vitamin K2 tablets can also be found in natural food stores and online from reputable companies. This precious vitamin cannot be stored in the body so you must ingest sufficient amounts each day.
Best of all for us vain gals; Vitamin K2 has one more thrilling shot in its arsenal. It keeps your skin’s elastin from becoming calcified. This means wrinkles can’t build up too easily.
So hold your nose and chomp down that natto.
