Reading for Wellness - Intro
Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - Michelle Superle
In Reading for Wellness, we challenge Michelle Superle to win back wellness by re-engaging what brings her the most comfort and joy—reading. She’s looking for wellness, and we’re looking for wellness fuel.
You know how it goes—the shoemaker’s children have no shoes, the doctor’s wife is always ill, the professor never reads.
Wait. We made that last one up.
A lifelong reader, Michelle chose her profession because she loves to read. So we were shocked to learn how little she’s been reading these days between marking her students’ work and toiling on her freelance writing.
Once upon a time, Michelle read 10 books a week. Now she’s lucky to squeeze in two every month. But trees don’t grow without sunshine and rain, and a car won’t run without gas, so how can a writer write without reading books?
Wellness comes in many forms - anything nurturing overall health and happiness counts. Yet many of us mistakenly conceptualize wellness too narrowly—getting our sweat on and being mindful of what we eat is top of mind. We focus on being physically active, while exercising the mind remains tucked away like ice skates in the closet during summer.
So join us as we challenge Michelle to win back wellness by re-engaging what brings her the most comfort and joy—reading.
She’s looking for wellness, and we’re looking for wellness fuel.

First up - Cockeyed by Ryan Knighton.
Michelle Superle writes books plus other stuff and earns a living teaching people how to do it too. She gets her wellness on by running around with the one lovely human male and the 20 beautiful horses she lives with (one of which is named Princess Tulu!).
