It’s Friday and you've worked hard this week so, how about something easy? It’s the Fast Friday 5 – a quick five things you need to know, served up nice and simple.
With news coming from Whistler this week that the rescued Whistler Sled Dogs need new homes, we thought it was high time to remind everyone of the mind-body-soul benefits of a canine companion.
Here’s why you should adopt a best friend (whether you live in Whistler or not).
1. Environmentally Friendly Vacuum. Dropped a few crumbs? Morning smoothie slopped to the floor? No need to get out the Dirt Devil – just call in good old Fido; he happily does wet and dry clean ups. No batteries required.
2. You Talking to Me? If you have a propensity for giving voice to those inner thoughts while walking in public, you now have a perfect way to save face. You: That’s it! Stranger: You talking to me? You: Nope, I’m talking to my dog. (Only attempt this when you have your dog with you).
3. Barking Happy. Studies have shown that owning a dog makes you more content and improves self confidence. Who wouldn’t be happier when you’ve always got someone to talk to, they support you at every turn and they’re always there with a furry hug (and sometimes kisses too).
4. Longer Life. Dogs may live in dog-years but owning one can extend your years. A recent study found that people who adopted a dog saw an immediate reduction in their blood pressure and felt less stressed. Call it puppy zen.
5. Ice Breaker. You may not know it but down at the end of your leash is a big sign that says, ‘come on over and talk to my owner.’ People love to pet dogs and they love to chat up dog owners. The world can be a friendly place again when you have a pooch to break the ice.
Besides, rescuing a dog is just good karma and that’s no dogma.
