Even if you aren’t a souvenir junkie, chances are that when you traveled, you collected more than just memories.
Whether postcards, trinkets, mugs or a seashell, it’s common to bring back physical reminders of paradise.
These items may begin their new lives by being displayed in a prominent location in your home. As time passes and vacation memories fade, souvenirs may start to lose glean and be relegated to a drawer or a closet.
Lest you imagine this story ends with a Toy Story-esque “land of misfit toys,” we do have a happy ending ahead.
In the age of upcycling, twin sisters Heather and Karen Hendry have found a novel way to keep vacation memories alive and well: repurpose and wear them.
Taking shells from all around the world, they encourage customers to bring their own to make into stunning rings, necklaces and bracelets. You can browse their website for ideas of their styles, but they all have a hippie chic vibe using sterling silver and bronze to cast over the shell’s mould.
This may be a time when bigger is not better, unless you want to carry a clamshell on your finger.
Karen expands on her and her roommate/sister/business partner’s vision: “We want to create something timeless with a memory attached.” It‘s a great way to start to dust off one of your memories and bring it into the open air.
Heather and Karen don’t have any plans to repurpose postcards, but we’ll keep you posted.
