While some yoga studios are found in refreshing rainforests or on peaceful beachfronts, Banff’s Rocky Mountain Yoga boasts perfect views of one of the Canadian Rockies’ most iconic peaks. Through the large light-spilling windows, set your drishti on Cascade Mountain and watch the subtle dance of light on its triangular summit.

Flipping Downward Dogs since November 2009, Rocky Mountain Yoga is Banff’s only fully dedicated yoga space. Located on the second level of the Bison Courtyard, the studio is just a hop, skip or a jump away from pretty much anywhere in town.

The studio’s décor - inspired by yogic symbols, life-giving plants and playful art - is so vibrant and enlivening that you’ll be doing handstands before you know it. Owner Mindy Johnstone chose deep red, brown and orange hues, and purposefully placed plants and candles throughout, giving the space an earthy feel to go with the lofty scenery outside. Mindy’s own original acrylic paintings adorn the walls and offer an inspiring connection to nature.

This intimate studio offers a number of styles and levels of yoga, including Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga and Yin, which are all taught by a roster of talented local teachers. Additionally, they frequently host workshops with instructors that will have you practicing to a drumbeat, flying with a partner, twisting into a pretzel or meditating your way to the top of Cascade.
