If Harry Potter's world included a health food store, Fleur Sauvage would be it.
Venture inside the sprawling store, tucked into the heart of Monkland Village in the NDG neighbourhood of Montreal, and you’ll find yourself in a veritable wizard's den of natural food delights.
Stock is stacked floor to ceiling - from medicinal teas and sour sop juice to green tea sports balls and grind your own almond butter. There's a whole freezer filled with different kinds of gluten-free baked goods, a full aisle of healthy snacks, an area dedicated to supplements and remedies, and a collection of jars that hold organic spices and medicinal herbs.
If your inner wizard needs a little guidance, Fleur Savage has a naturopath on site from 12-7PM Tuesday to Friday and an herbalist on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Advice is offered free of charge and if the particular remedy you're seeking isn't available in store, staff are happy to try and find it for you somewhere else in Montreal.
Wizards of the DYI variety can use the Internet in the store themselves to search for remedies or leaf through the naturopathic library.
Fleur Savage has a local clientele built up over the 25 years they've been in business. They also attract shoppers from across the city seeking items that can't be found anywhere else in town - like the food grade diatomaceous earth (the best natural remedy for pests, parasites and the ubiquitous bed bug).
Consider them the Golden Snitch of Montreal.
