Ever wonder what it's like to belong to a funky food coop that's on a quest to change the world?
Join The Frigo Vert to fill your belly with healthy food and satisfy your activist cravings at the same time.
Tucked into a semi-basement in the middle of the Concordia University district, this well-stocked health food store/lounge carries everything from bulk spaghetti to biodegradable cranberry-flavoured dental floss.
With a mandate to sell local, organic and non-genetically modified food whenever possible, you know your money goes to support farmers and ethically-inspired small businesses. And speaking of dough, The Frigo Vert Cooperative is all about providing healthy food with the smallest markup possible. Anyone can shop at the Frigo Vert, but a $20 membership to the coop gets you 20 percent off everything in the store and an invitation to their workshops. Gluten Free Cooking and Urban Beekeeping anyone?
Can't afford $20 but still want to get your hands on a dozen free-range local eggs or a bottle of red raspberry leaf tincture? The folks at the Frigo Vert will gladly let you pay your membership fee one dollar at a time.
Wander to the lounge at the back of the store to take a break, relax on the couch, play a board game or leaf through a magazine from the bookcase. And don't forget to check out their bulletin board to learn about upcoming events, demonstrations and workshops.
A one-stop shopping for the hungry activist in all of us.
