They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what’s an urban foodie to do?
Good, organic produce can be hard to find. That can lead to sour grapes, but fret not: there is a place in the city that’s fully-stocked with a large selection of fresh fare, and at a decent price to boot.
Nestled in the heart of Toronto’s upbeat (and, at times, offbeat) Kensington Market, 4 Life Natural foods is every bit as eclectic as the neighbourhood where it resides. Soulful, funky music and a natural, earthy vibe are what give the market its aesthetic appeal, but the high-quality products are what keep people coming back.
This market is a natural first choice for health-conscious locals, many of whom rave about the wide selection of hormone-free meat, local and organic produce, and large bulk selection.
Owner Potsothy Sallapa founded the market eight years ago with an aim towards supporting local produce and providing customers with high-quality food at an affordable price. 4 Life’s shelves are organized neatly and the aisles are spacious. There’s a concerted effort to make customers aware of what they’re buying: handy labels provide details about the food item, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Pedestrian Sundays are always a hit. Once a week Sallapa turns his shop into a makeshift farmer’s market by providing in-store booths to local growers so that they can sell directly to the community.
Looks like you can have your veg and live in the city, too.
