Hogtown Vegan. Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it?
The tongue-in-cheek name sums up the spirit of this delightful little restaurant. Vegan comfort food amidst the meat-heavy joints that surround Kensington Market.
Madeleine Foote, Scott McCannel and Ross Corder already owned a burrito and donut shop called Hot Beans but came to a eureka moment when they realized that vegans like junk food as much as anyone else. So, they went whole hog and opened the Hogtown Vegan.
What’s vegan comfort food anyhow? Take your pick from the unchicken and waffles, a Reuben sandwich with seitan wheat protein instead of corned beef, mac ‘n cheese and Hogtown wings? Wash it down with a pint of Flying Monkeys’ Netherworld Dark Ale on tap.
Customers are already flocking to what Madeleine sees as a burgeoning vegan community that’s still growing. As more vegans and non-vegans get wind of the unique fare this restaurant serves up, there’s no doubt even more will be gathering here.
After you sink your teeth into the healthy, delicious food, you’ll realize there’s nothing contradictory about ‘good for you’ and ‘sinfully tasty’.
