Open the door to Tutti Frutti and you’ll feel like you’ve entered organic and health-food heaven, albeit a small, cramped and a tad disorganized one.
This little family-owned grocery and health food store has 15 years of experience trying to cram everything you could need into its quarters.
Located in the heart of Kensington Market, Tutti Frutti can seem overwhelming to the uninitiated first-time visitor. The sheer volume of goods is intimidating, and because of its small size, you’ll have to get friendly with other shoppers. The helpful staff and cheaper prices are definitely worth the trip.
When prowling the aisles, check out items like the WyldWood tofu. It’s about a dollar cheaper here. Supplements, nut butters, aloe vera juice, chlorophyll and a host of other items are also available at great prices. Chances are you’ll find whatever it is you’re looking for.
There are bulk bins, over 500 of them, filled to overflowing with nuts, seeds, herbs, cereal, chocolate, protein powders and unusual foods like spirulina, a nutritional supplement made from two species of cyanobacteria.
Amidst the simple ingredients – parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme - you’ll find exotic spices like cardamom and garam masala and unusual herbs. Ever heard of false unicorn and bladder wrack?
Before you leave, don’t forget to pick up some green krispie squares. They’re made with the afore-mentioned spirulina, much healthier for you than the usual variety of rice krispie square.
When your supplies inevitably run low, this little slice of heaven will be waiting for you.
