You know what you want in coffee: half caf, soy, spectacular. If you want the certainty of alignment and precision with your yoga, Ester Myers is your institution and woman.
Ester has become one of Canada’s most respected yoga teachers and a certifiable brand with books and DVDs under her name. She teaches around the world, rather than in one studio, but her style is respected through the present co-owners and directors Tama Soble and Monica Voss at 390 Dupont Street.
Ester Myers believes in moving with less strain and more awareness. Her empathetic style is brought to future Toronto teachers with the most comprehensive Teacher Training program in North America, bringing students from all around the globe to the big city. This 750-hour program builds a deeply reflective practice centered on anatomy and natural movement potential. For existing teachers, they also provide further training to keep teaching fresh and poignant.
Workshops for all students range from Yoga for the Eyes to Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors in order to bring about what Tama Soble and Monica Voss call “Thinking Body Yoga.” This yoga is practiced slowly, intelligently and safely and is designed to promote the idea of achieving greater independence, pleasure and ease in the body.
A pose that promotes all three is the final relaxation pose, savasana. Ester Myers does this pose at the beginning and at the end of class, ensuring that the body and mind release tension very soon after entering the door.
Sigh.
