Both environmental conscience and inner 8-year old satisfied at this flower shop.
Plants and flowers peek up and around every corner - they seem to be wild and growing out of the space itself, as if the walls were added later. Olla Urban Flower Project is a secret little urban garden, tucked away in a beautiful heritage loft in Vancouver's Gastwon District.
Every petal, stem and leaf at Olla is used consciously and may be destined for a wedding, corporate event, flower delivery or interior landscaping. No matter their use, plants here have longer lives than most of their kind. When their time in the spotlight has faded, you have the option to send off your cut flower designs for further admiration at local charities in the downtown east side.
Olla’s concept of green begins before plants arrive at the space and extends long after. All of the flora is selected from an urban or local farm or greenhouse, or from a Fair Trade certified farm. Any green waste produced is sent to local composting projects, while attempts are being made to decrease packaging from suppliers.
Using interesting, found vases and locally manufactured
wooden bases, arrangements at Olla are one of a kind. The best part is the gals behind the shop share their secrets on a monthly basis, hosting affordable workshops ranging from Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) to building trendy terrariums.
Look no further for your next gift idea – although be prepared to leaf leave with one for you too.
