Toronto's Farmers' Markets - Summer 2012
Toronto may be viewed as Hollywood North and an urban concrete jungle, but the summer brings out the best. Parking lots and downtown parks suddenly become havens for fresh peaches and places where men in suits can ogle strawberries to determine which ones really are the most farm fresh. Plastic is no longer welcome as payment, but canvas bags are encouraged. Here is a sample of the many markets that you can bite into this summer:
Saturdays May 5th - November 3rd
8am - 1pm
Regional, seasonal, accessible, and Angie’s Ice Pops? Yes, please!
Sundays June 3rd - October 28th
9am - 2pm
Bountiful produce, musicians and a waffle bar mean that this may replace Sunday brunch.
Thursdays June 21st - October 11th
8am - 230pm
Freshly baked pies, apple cider and a plethora of green vegetables means that a locally based dinner can be on the table for even the most centrally based Torontonian.
Saturdays
5am - 3pm
The best market in the world (according to National Geographic) just got better. On Saturdays find antique dealers and Southern Ontario farmers in this historic market which begun in 1803.
Tuesday May 8th - October 31st
3pm - 7pm
Fresh fish, cheese and honey mean that your cooking can be pumped to a whole different level. Oh, and there are vegetables too.
Sundays June 3rd - October 21st
9am - 2pm
A certified farmer’s market with the My Market series (no fake farmers here!) outshines the trendy restaurants for a short time on Sunday mornings, with a wide variety of produce.
