If you have a pet, you may notice that they’re interested in your meditation practice. Animals are attracted to tranquil energy and you may hear gentle purring or sighing coming from their corner as you sink into stillness. So why not incorporate them into the meditation and gain some quality time together?
The next time you decide to meditate, call your cat or dog to be near you. Place one hand on them as you close your eyes. This physical connection is deeply soothing to your animal and a great stress reliever for you.
Focus on your breath going in and out, as well as the gentle rise and fall of the breath that you can feel in your pet’s body.
If the volume of your pet changes, or if they move around and try to get your attention, try to keep still and centered. They’re a great example that even after connecting with calm, the world may have other plans.
Stay with your animal as long as you can, breathing in and out and radiating your serenity in their direction.
When the meditation has finished, open your eyes and give your co-meditator a well-deserved belly rub! You’ve finally spoken a language that he or she understands.
