Although we’re on the cusp of spring in some places across the country, technically old man winter still rules the roost.
During these chilly, airy, vata (an ayurevedic term) times it’s nice to give the body some warming nourishment and keep our diet simple. This week’s blend is reminiscent of a hot drink I love; warm apple cider.
Apples offer about 3 grams of fibre and are easily digestible, not to mention good for the respiratory system. Lemon and ginger are the digestive system’s best friend and promote warming. Healthy fats and a bit of protein in the hemps seeds, as well as minerals and a teeny bit of sweetness from the date, balance things out perfectly.
Ingredients
Aim for organic.
1 apple, cored
3 sections of peeled lemon, seeded
1 inch chunk of fresh ginger
2 tsp hemp seeds
1 soft medjool date
filtered water to cover
* add some protein powder to make this a mini-meal.
Blend until frothy and smooth. Drink up and don’t let the winter blues get you down. Won’t be long now!
