‘Tis the season for greens! And blending them up in a smoothie is one of the quickest, easiest ways to get ’em in you.
With this recipe, I went wild with a few different varieties of leafies. Green apple, although tart, magically sweetens things up and makes the flavour of this green medicine highly palatable… even addictive.
This dreamy green combination is low in saturated fat and sodium and very low in cholesterol. It’s also an excellent source of protein, dietary fibre, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, calcium, magnesium, folate and iron. To boot, plant nutrients, phenols, and flavenoids assist our bodies in healing, allow for additional fluid intake to reverse dehydration issues, and reactivate our magnificent ability to heal ourselves.
And did ya know, romaine lettuce has a calming effect? You’ll float through your day content as a clam.
Ingredients
Organic is the greenest!
- 1 green apple (Granny Smith), peel on
- 3 large romaine leaves
- 3 medium swiss chard leaves
- small fistful of baby beet tops
- 1/3 of a green pepper
- 1 cup of filtered water
Blend on high adding more liquid as desired (I like this one a little more water, so it’s a bit like juice). Just what the N.D. ordered.
