From Bonnie Sterns’s Friday Night Dinners
Despite our efforts at clean, healthy eating, sometimes it seems our stubborn sweet toothes are just here to stay. Which, they kinda are – thanks to our friend, evolution.
Happily though, your cravings don’t have to be your downfall – not when you can craft up quick, easy and delicious mock-versions of your favourite treats using whole foods. Just the way “evolution” intended.
Whip up a bunch of these tempting “turtles” for the next holiday party and trick everybody’s taste buds.
Ingredients
1. Make sure your dates are pitted and nice and plump. Stuff the dates, alternating between pecans and walnuts, sealing the nut safely inside. (Usually there is a neat little slit that you can press open in order to get the nut in there.)
2. Once that’s done, heat up a little pot or saucepan and throw in the dark chocolate over low heat. Stir often, until chocolate is melted, in order to avoid burning.
3. Drop the stuffed dates into the chocolate (a few at a time), and using a spoon, evenly coat the dates on all sides. Scoop out and place on a parchment-lined plate. When all the dates are coated – transfer the plate into the fridge and let the chocolate harden. (It’s easier to eat them with hard chocolate – no sticky stuff on your fingers!)
Then get your sweet tooth on – sharing optional.
