When a group of psychotherapists told The Dali Lama that the biggest problem facing their patients was self-esteem, he had a hard time believing it. He couldn’t think of anyone in Tibet with this problem.
There could be thousands of cultural reasons why this is so. However, he also indicated that his first thoughts in the day were about shaping intention. Being vigilant and understanding what we want is key in making friends with ourselves.
Start your day with certainty through this meditation.
Imagine what you want. You can be as limited as working with a single day or work with a bigger goal. Be very specific.
An intention can be something along the lines of I wish to notice each time I am not kind to myself. Or it can be I wish to be present so that I can apply to jobs with concentration and confidence.
Take some time to declare the words that will begin your day.
Once your intention is sealed, place your hands in front of your heart. Feel the intention through the resonance of the heart. Then repeat to yourself, Sa-Ta-Na-Ma. Not only is this fun to repeat, but it also means Infinity, Life, Death and Rebirth.
This will help to clear the mind, and as you repeat it continuously, it will promote a feeling of joy and peace.
When you’re done, rub your palms together to create heat and place them over your eyes. Open your eyes underneath the palms and release the palms to your lap.
And there you have it, your go-to meditation for confidence. Now, go on with your day, ready to face and overcome anything that comes your way!
