Don’t you wish you had a few more hours every day?
Time to go to the gym, cook a delicious meal or read that book on your bedside table that’s collecting dust?
When I ask clients what their biggest obstacle in achieving their goals is, most answer: “I don’t have enough time.”
We all have 24 precious hours every day to live our best life. Unfortunately, most of us have been taught to fill our schedules with lengthy to-do lists that don’t fulfill us.
A few years back, I remember looking at my agenda and crying. Every minute was accounted for things that didn’t make my heart sing. Even though everything was organized, I felt tired.
Let me share what I have learned over the years and now pass along to my clients daily.
Put the oxygen mask on yourself first.
You cannot be a super mom, loving husband, or entrepreneur extraordinaire if you are running on an empty tank. Make taking care of yourself a priority. At a minimum, take 1 hour per day for sacred YOU time. Work out. Dance. Paint your nails. Read that book. Do the little things that make you happy. They require no justification.
What makes you happy will make others happy.
We often feel that doing what we love isn’t important. Yet it is the most important thing! When I was recovering from surgery for colorectal cancer I understood this. I woke up to a room filled with people who loved me. They didn’t care about my title or how I looked. They cared that I was healthy and happy. That is all they needed to be happy themselves.
Remember the words from the best Life Coach that I know, Dr. Seuss:
those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
Plan to do nothing.
We can easily start to feel guilty when doing nothing. Switch your perspective by remembering that doing nothing is doing something. It feeds our creativity and we can relax, wander or reboot. Have one day per week where nothing is planned. Do whatever you want without expectations. Play or sleep in until noon! If you need support in making this happen, ask. Say please and thank you. You might be surprised at what happens!
Turn the mundane into a game!
For life to run smoothly we all need to do groceries and laundry. These household chores can become dull and redundant. Why not add a little spice to the regular routine? Dress up to do house chores. Crank up the music. Do groceries at a new spot or have them delivered!
